Bennett Sullivan Associates, Hugh Sullivan - Architectural Review
As cofounder and Chief Architect of Bennett Sullivan Associates, Hugh directs the firm’s architectural projects and works closely with clients from project inception to completion to ensure satisfaction and successful project outcome. His design leadership has shaped many of the firm’s commercial and residential projects. In additional to his role as Principal of Bennett Sullivan Associates, Hugh is co-founder and Officer of Pediment Construction and Pediment Realty Company.
Their work has been published in Period Homes, Connecticut Cottages & Gardens and Connecticut Magazine and has earned many industry awards for design and planning excellence. His professional registrations include the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, State of Connecticut, State of New York, State of Kentucky and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
He is a member of The American Institute of Architects, the Connecticut Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and Building Officials and Code Administrators International. Hugh received a Bachelor of Architecture with Highest Honors from Kent State University and Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He also served as an Adjunct Professor and Thesis Critic at the Boston Architectural Center.
Hugh donates his design, planning and management skills through his involvement in several community and civic organizations, including Board positions on the Southbury Planning Commission, Southbury Planning Streetscape Committee, Main Street Planning Design Guidelines Committee, Rural Preservation Advisory Commission, Long Range Planning Commission for the Southbury Public Library, South Britain Historic District, the Seabury Society and the Glebe House Museum and The Gertrude Jekyll Garden.
Robert "Biff" Schechinger - Landscape Architect
Biff (Robert C.) Schechinger has spent over three decades designing and administering the construction
of a wide variety of Residential, Commercial and Institutional Projects throughout New England and
New York. His professional career started within an Environmental Engineering Group followed by
work in one of Connecticut’s premier Landscape Architect Firms. After founding and running his own
company in the late 1980’s for 6 years, he has gone on to a successful private practice this last 15 years,
with a focus primarily on individual Residential design and cutting-edge Residential Community Planning.
Currently he holds professional registrations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York and is a member
of the National American Society of Landscape Architects. Biff received a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Tufts University, (cum laude) and a Masters in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, (Honors),
from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he has also held positions as an Adjunct Professor in Graduate Design & Professional Practice.
During the course of his career, Biff has won a variety of Planning and Design Awards from both the American Society of Landscape Architects and National Home Builders Association. His work has appeared in several publications, including, most recently, Connecticut Magazine. Biff’s recent commissions have included Residential Estates for international and local clients, a series of Chapels for the Catholic Church and the State’s only comprehensive Veterans War Memorial, (which he was awarded by the Governor, through design competition in 2010, with his design partner, Dean A. Johnson, FASLA). He has also served on Town Design Review Boards as well as donated designs and plans for play grounds and civic parks throughout Connecticut and New York.
